I have come across managers who are reluctant to make plans because the plans won’t work. They are missing the point.
The politician Denis Healey is reputed to have said: “Don’t expect to work without a plan… but don’t expect your plan to work.”
The value in a plan comes from the process of making it and from the visibility it gives to your intentions when other people are involved.
At its simplest a plan is a list of steps with timing and resources to get to an objective.
