I have come across managers who are reluctant to make plans because the plans won’t work. They are missing the point.

The politician Denis Healey is reputed to have said: “Don’t expect to work without a plan… but don’t expect your plan to work.”

The value in a plan comes from the process of making it and from the visibility it gives to your intentions when other people are involved.

At its simplest a plan is a list of steps with timing and resources to get to an objective.

What is one of your key objectives?

What is your plan to achieve that objective?

Here are some simple tips on how to plan a project. I particularly like the quote from Sir John Harvey Jones.

My best wishes, Paul
