leadership and managementWe hear so much about leadership these days, and it is often touted as the ‘cure-all’ for almost any organisational ill. So much so we even see articles with the flavour of ‘Management is dead. Long live leadership!’

Stephen Covey simplifies leadership and management nicely; leadership is about people, management is about things. If a leader can’t get these ‘things’ into the hands of their people so they are enabled to follow, does it matter what the vision is?

Leadership in an organisation, without enabled followers, is largely irrelevant.

Is leadership hyped in your organisation at the expense of management?

Think of your own role as a manager/leader or, if you like, leader/manager.

What proportion of leadership vs. management should you be doing to serve your people and your organisation well?

Have a look at this list of differences between managers and leaders and think about where you should focus your own development.

My best wishes, Paul
