I saw this quote today and it got me thinking…
“Five frogs are sitting on a log. Four decide to jump off. How many are left? Answer: five. Why? Because there’s a difference between deciding and doing.”
Mark L. Feldman & Michael F. Spratt, Five Frogs on a Log
There are many things I have decided to do, and never lifted a finger to activate the decision. There are other things I have decided to do and dived into action with everything I had.
What’s the difference?
For me it is often down to should or want. If I should do something, I often find myself not getting around to it. So now if I decide to do anything, I then figure out if it is because I feel I should do it. If the answer is yes, then I either find enough reasons so that I now really want to do it… or I don’t do it.
It’s about lining up with the decision to bring the right kind of motivation to bear on it. The kind of motivation that smoothly moves me into action and thus gets results.
My best wishes, Paul
